They say that artists
paint the world's reflection
because there isn't a mirror
large enough to encompass
all that is on the surface
not to mention
that which lays beneath
and it is in these pens
pencils and paintbrushes
that we the artists
tell those not called in the same way
what the heart of the people
is crying out for
and why the soul of who we are
goes through highs and lows
as each and everyone
wears a mask all their own
trying to hide pains and
heartbreaks that pride
tells them shouldn't be shown
and without exploitation
we speak for those
that only admit such things
in prayers made in private
an elite calling this
gift truly is
though we will
as the price to pay
be mocked and ridiculed
thought to be the fool
or doubted of sincerity
but how else would we
reflect each of our
multi-faceted design
with any clarity
if we did not speak
write into the night
on all these things that we see?

No matter what
they say of poets
I am blessed to be among those
that respect this purpose
and are not ashamed nor afraid
